Advocates
I was born in 1953 and enjoyed a normal happy and healthy childhood until I was 15, when I went to Boys' Brigade summer camp in Whitby with a cold and returned home with Pneumonia. This set off a condition known as Youngs Syndrome, the Bronchiectosis part of which led to me needing a double lung transplant 30 years later.
I married Sheilah in 1976 and we have two wonderful children, Joanne and Michael, and a lovely daughter-in-law, Francesca. Our first grandchild, Georgia May, arrived in 2012. I had my transplant in October 1999 and have been blessed with good health since.
In 2004 I met my donor's mother at the European heart and Lung Games in Dublin. It was a very special moment to be able to thank her in person for my donor’s wonderful gift of life.
I discovered LLGL via Gerard Falsey, an Advocate and fellow member of the Freeman Sports team, who sadly lost his battle with rejection in 2013. I decided to become an Advocate as a tribute to him to continue the work that he had started.
